Medicine Peak Loop, WY

This hike is located in the Snowy Range in southern Wyoming.

With a 2000 foot elevation gain, a confusing 3 different signs all claiming to be the peak, large swaths of snow, stretches of scree, and after the actual peak (the tallest pile of rocks) an incredibly confusing line of fence posts trailing off the mountain top (do NOT GO THAT WAY) and then a 2000 foot climb down over 8 or so miles, this trail is rated difficult. However, the constant views, the abundant wildflowers, the snowy slopes you can slide down on your butt, the marmots and pika chirping, and in the valley the steady flow of a dozen little streams of snowmelt, this is a wonderful hike that is well worth the effort.

In June, only the camping areas in the valley closer to Saratoga, are open because of snow. We stayed one night in Saratoga and the next car camping at one of the drive-in sites. This worked out well because it allowed for 2 early morning trips to the hot springs, which are located in Saratoga and are free and open 24-7.
